Are You Proud of The Story You’re Writing?

To use a hockey analogy, I’m in the third period of my life. To use a book analogy, I’m writing chapter three. One of the things I’m finding different about the third period is how I’m making decisions, considering things that I never considered before.

Recently, I found myself at one of those major forks in the road, one that will determine my future direction for years to come. One road was familiar to me, while the other was utterly foreign. I didn’t want to go down the familiar path because I had been there before, yet I was intimidated by the unfamiliar path.

In deciding, I began to think about how I wanted to write this chapter of my life. Would it repeat a prior chapter or be unique and exciting? Would I look back on it with pride or regret?

Whether we write our autobiography or not, we write the chapters of our lives with our actions and decisions. In writing this chapter, I ultimately took the unfamiliar and intimidating path. Only time will tell how the chapter ends. Still, I’m already relieved and satisfied with my choice, knowing it will challenge and stretch me. I will not be the same person at the journey's end; I will be better, wiser, and stronger!

Are you writing a chapter that you will be proud of?
