Book Update: The Editing Continues
Another month of progress on Becoming the Person People Want to Do Business With.
Last month, I reported that all 15 chapters had been written and that I had begun a second, chapter-by-chapter edit.
That work continues, and I've been concentrating increasingly on what I call the mechanics of writing.
By that, I mean sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, word choice, unnecessary repetition, and overall clarity. Does a sentence say exactly what I intended? Does the paragraph flow naturally? Can I make the same point more effectively with fewer words?
I'm also paying attention to how the stories support the business principles I'm trying to communicate. After all, the purpose of this book isn't simply to tell stories from my 40 years of business experience. It's to connect those stories to the business principles, showing how they work in practice and making them more tangible to the reader.
Another exciting development is the progress on the book's cover design. After considering several concepts and gathering feedback through a small, informal poll, I've arrived at the latest revision, which I believe is very close to what the final cover will look like. I'm sharing that version with this update.
Once I've completed the chapter-by-chapter editing process, the next step will be a full-manuscript edit.
That means reading the book from beginning to end as a single work rather than as 15 individual chapters.
I'll be looking at how the chapters fit together, whether the transitions make sense, whether the tone and terminology remain consistent, and whether I've repeated ideas that don't need repeating.
Most importantly, I'll be asking whether the book accomplishes what I set out to do: explain the principles that helped me earn respect, build trust, and create lasting business relationships.
Each round of editing brings me a little closer to the book I envisioned when I started this project.
And that's where my attention is focused right now.
More to come!
